Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Whenever we read the Bible, especially the conditional statements, we should never forget that Jesus became the Son of Man in order to meet every one of the conditions. Unless we do so, we undermine the gospel–the fullness and freeness of God’s grace.
When Jesus walked this earth, He fully delighted Himself in His Father. Therefore, the Father will give Him all the desires of His heart. His desires are for our eternal good: “Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory that you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world” (John 17:24). Earlier Jesus had stated: “I knew that you always hear me . . .” (John 11:42).
As the Son of Man, Jesus will receive all the desires of His heart. That’s the good news of the gospel. He receives all the glory and we receive all the blessings.
