“And he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD.”

There is no complete appreciation of Christ–the Word of God–and there is no actual living upon Him unless we have been stripped of all self-sufficiency. As long as we think we are able to do things, which would clearly contradict Jesus’ statement in John, “apart from me you can do nothing” (John 15:5), we will not fully depend on Him for everything. God’s work in our lives is to strip us off our supposed self-sufficiency in order for us to solely live on Christ’s-sufficiency.
