We’re taking a break from our journey through John’s gospel because I’ll be starting my book launch of “A Glorious Sacrifice – Seeing and Savoring God’s Matchless Love” on June 18th. There are 40 short devotionals of about 3 minutes each (only 0.2083% of your daily 1440 minutes). I encourage you to share this book launch with your friends and connections.
Jesus’ sacrifice is the greatest reality that our finite mind can wrap itself around? There are infinite breadths, lengths, heights, and depths of His love, grace, peace, and comfort for our soul.
You’ll receive each one starting this Sunday. I’ll be posting the first one on Saturday, but Mail Chimp won’t be delivering that one until Sunday morning, 7.00am EST. If you’re into Bible memorization (and also if you’re not into Bible memorization), I encourage you to mediate on each verse for that day. God’s word is powerful to raise our thoughts and affections toward Him.
In the next three days I want to whet your appetite for what’s coming by highlighting three verses in relation to the cross:
For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.
1 Corinthians 2:2
No scholar would disagree that the Corinthian church had major problems. How did Paul approach them? He decided “to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.” Jesus’ death on our behalf is the answer to any sin and corruption.
The cross is God’s all-sufficient answer for our justification, sanctification, and glorification. While that doesn’t mean He won’t discipline, reprove, and chastise us when we sin (see Heb. 12:5-6), it does mean that He will do so in light of His Son’s sacrifice.
Paul wrote: “But I, brothers, could not address you as spiritual people, but as people of the flesh, as infants in Christ” (1 Cor. 3:1). How do we relate to other Christians who are living, like the Corinthians, in sin and aren’t very spiritual? Paul had only one answer: Jesus’s sacrifice is all-sufficient for you! Do we believe the same for ourselves and others?
